Mafias: a European Problems – Macrocrimes invited to the European Parliament

Macrocrimes was invited to participate in the conference Mafias: a European Problem, organized by MEP Sabrina Pignedoli at the European Parliament on 5th February 2020.

Some members of the Centre and of the Department of Law of the University of Ferrara, accompanied by Professors Ciro Grandi and Francesco Morelli, went to Brussels where, after an institutional visit of the Hemicycle, they had the opportunity to participate to the conference.

The initiative, introduced by a video-message from the Italian Ministry of Justice Alfonso Bonafede, saw the participation, as speakers, of Federico Varese, Professor of Criminology of the University of Oxford; Filippo Spiezia, Deputy President of Eurojust; Uwe Mühlhoff, Senior Public Prosecutor, Head of the organized crime unit, Office of the Public Prosecutor in Duisburg, Germany; Antonio Nicaso, Professor at the Queen's University of Kingston, Canada; Monika Hohlmeier, Chair of Budgetary Control Committee (CONT) of the European Parliament; Nicola Morra, President of the Italian parliamentary anti-mafia Commission; Fabio Massimo Castaldo, Deputy President of the European Parliament

The Director of the Centre, Professor Serena Forlati, has gladly accepted the invitation, which “further consolidates the role of Macrocrimes as one of the main research institutions on high-impact crime in Italy and beyond”.
