Maria Federica Carriero is a Researcher in criminal law since February 2023 at the Department of Legal and Economic Studies of the Sapienza University of Rome, where she had previously been a research fellow.
Between December 2021 and January 2022, she was a research fellow in criminal law at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, as well as the previous year, following a European research project funded by OLAF (European Anti-Fraud Office - Hercules III Programme).

In March 2018, she completed her Ph.D. in legal sciences with a scholarship "The European legal culture of business and institutions" at the Department of Law of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, with a thesis entitled "The epistemological status of scientific laws. A catalog of criteria between law and science" (Supervisor: Prof. Massimo Donini).

In the academic year 2013/2014, she graduated from the same University with full marks and honors, discussing a thesis on "Crimes of danger and epidemiological assessments", Supervisor Prof. Massimo Donini and Co-Supervisor Donato Castronuovo.

During her academic career, she participated in national and European research projects. Author of numerous publications and a monograph published in February 2025, entitled "Causality and imputation. Scientific laws between method and dogmas", she has also undertaken several trainings stays abroad at English, German, and Spanish Universities. She has also been the winner of several awards and scholarships.

In September 2017, she passed the bar exam at the Court of Appeal of Lecce.
