Karine Bannelier
Karine Bannelier is a Member of the Scientific Commitee of Macrocrimes.
Karine Bannelier holds a Ph.D. in International Law from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. She is an Associate Professor of International Law and currently serves as the Director of the Grenoble Alpes Cybersecurity Institute.
She also heads the Master’s Program in International Security, Cybersecurity, and Defense at Grenoble Alpes University (France). Her research explores how international law adapts to emerging global security challenges, with a particular focus on cyberspace. She examines the roles and responsibilities of states and private actors in cybersecurity and cybercrime, with a special interest in topics such as international cooperation in combating cybercrime, cross-border access to digital evidence, and the principle of due diligence—often referred to as “cyber-diligence.”
Karine Bannelier has published extensively in the fields of international security, cybersecurity, and cybercrime, authoring or co-authoring eight books and more than 80 articles and book chapters. She has been invited to present her work over 100 times in 25 countries. In 2019, she was invited by the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs to record the first UN course on cybersecurity issues, entitled “The Role of Due Diligence in Preventing and Responding to Cyberattacks” (Audiovisual Library of International Law, UN Web TV, New York, in French). She also participated in the UN Cybercrime Convention negotiations (UN Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Convention on Cybercrime).
In addition, she has served as an expert on cybersecurity and cybercrime for several national and international institutions, including the French National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the OECD.
