Antonio Vallini
Antonio Vallini is a Member of the Scientific Commitee of Macrocrimes.
Antonio Vallini is Full Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Pisa. He was Associate Professor at the University of Florence and obtained his PhD (specialization) at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa.
His main areas of research concern guilt and error, causality, concurrent offenses and the penalty system, the criminal liability of doctors, international criminal law, criminal bio-law (in particular with regard to medically assisted procreation, embryo protection, and end-of-life issues), public officials’ offences, as well as the issues of post-truth and hate speech. He has published around 200 scientific articles in these fields, including the monographs “Antiche e nuove tensioni tra colpevolezza e reati artificiali” (2003) and “Illecito concepimento e valore del concepito. Statuto punitivo della procreazione, principi, prassi” (2012), both published by Giappichelli. He is also one of the authors of the book “Introduzione al diritto penale internazionale", also published by Giappichelli.
He was Principal Investigator of the European project AFRADE (Agricultural Frauds Detection) and head of the local unit of the European project HIDENDOLA (Hidden Antisemitism and Communicative Skills of Criminal Lawyers and Journalists). He is currently responsible, on behalf of the University of Pisa, for the PRIN ABIDE project (Rule of Law and the Problem of Responsible Obedience), funded by Next Generation EU. At the University of Pisa, he directed the multidisciplinary project Good Practices and Regulatory Models for the Use of AI in Diagnostic Imaging (IustiDIA). He participated in the joint research program between the Department of Law of the University of Pisa and the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City and in joint research activities with the University of Jaén. Previously, he took part in several national and international research projects, including PRIN projects dedicated to criminal law in medicine, the sanctions system, and the repression of international crimes.
He spent periods of study at the Max Planck Institute in Freiburg and was a visiting professor at the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City.
He was a member of the Commission for the drafting of an International Criminal Code, chaired by Professors Palazzo and Pocar and appointed by Minister Cartabia, and of the Ministerial Study Commission for the drafting of a legislative decree for the reorganization of the special part of the penal code, chaired by Councilor Marasca. He was a member of the Regional Bioethics Commission of the Region of Tuscany and, at the University of Florence, regional coordinator of the Penitentiary University Center of Tuscany: in this capacity, he took part in the States General of Criminal Enforcement established by Minister of Justice Orlando. He has collaborated on several occasions with the Higher School of the Judiciary and the Military Judiciary.
He is co-editor of the Giuffrè Penal Code, co-director of the journals La Legislazione penale, Criminalia, and Giurisprudenza italiana, and is one of the directors of the scientific series Studi di diritto penale costituzionale ed europeo. He is a member of the scientific committees of various journals and editorial series.
