Gioacchino Polimeni, 1948 -1973-75 Officer, Administration for International Assistance (Center for refugees and asylum). -1975-79, Judge, (Tribunal of Rome; Criminal Court and Investigating Magistrate, Trieste). -1979-98, Judge, seconded to the Ministry of Justice: from 1981, Director of the Office for European and International Criminal Affairs.

In international forums, inter alia: member of the UN Committee on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice; chairman at the Plenipotentiary Conference for the UN Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances; chairman of the Committee of the Council of Europe for the Convention on Laundering, Search, Seizure and Confiscation of the Proceeds from Crime; member of the Bureau of the FATF-GAFI. - 1998-2003, Legal Advisor to the Permanent Mission of Italy to the International Organizations in Vienna; alternate head of the Italian delegation for the drafting of UN conventions (UNTOC and UNCAC). -2004-06, Director of UNICRI, (United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, Torino). - Consultant in UN projects concerning organized crime; Member of the Board of Institutes affiliated to the UN.
