Francesco Salerno was a Full Professor of International Law at the University of Ferrara, where he primarily taught "International Law" and "Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in Armed Conflicts." Previously, he conducted his work at the Universities of Rome ("La Sapienza"), Florence, and Catanzaro.

He is the editor-in-chief of the "Rivista di diritto internazionale" (Journal of International Law). He is the author of three monographs: the first on the regulation of labor relations with multinational enterprises, and the other two on topics of international civil procedural law. He has also written a textbook on International Law, now in its seventh edition (2024), and the "Lessons on Private International Law" (second edition 2022), in addition to editing various collective publications, sometimes in collaboration with others.

In his numerous articles and essays, he has studied, among other things, the history of Italian legal thought in international law, the international activities of Italian Regions, the relationships between legal systems, the importance of public order in private and procedural international law, the protection of human rights, and certain issues related to international mechanisms of control and the determination of law.
