Marco Edgardo Florio is currently a post-doc researcher in criminal law at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", for a PRIN with P.I. Prof. Massimo Donini, and a PhD in "public law" (curriculum "criminal law and criminal procedure"), at the same University.

Graduated in Law (LMG/01) at the LUISS "Guido Carli" University of Rome in 2016, discussing a thesis in “Diritto penale delle scienze mediche e delle biotecnologie” ("Criminal law of medical sciences and biotechnologies"), entitled “Direttive anticipate e rifiuto di cure: diritto vigente e prospettive di regolamentazione” ("Advance directives and refusal of treatment: current law and regulatory perspectives") (supervisor Prof. Cristiano Cupelli).

Former research fellow, for the duration of nine months, for the project "Giustizia Agile - Per una giustizia giusta: innovazione ed efficienza negli uffici giudiziari", funded by the Ministry of Justice.

In the academic year 2022/2023, he was contract lecturer for the course "Principles of Criminal Procedural Law and International Criminal Law", which was part of the CdL in Cognitive Forensic Science of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Also in 2023, he graduated from the 22nd Specialisation Course in International Criminal Law for Young Penalists of the Syracuse International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, directed by Prof. William Schabas (who awarded him the second-best graduate of the course).

He did a research stay, as Visiting Scholar, at the department of Prof. Kai Ambos at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. During his academic career, he has also taken part as a speaker at various scientific conferences in Italy and abroad (Spain and Belgium), as well as participating in a few national research projects (either as a research fellow or as a member of the same).

He is the author of some publications on criminal law in well-known Italian and foreign scientific journals.

He is also registered with the Rome Bar Association, where he practises his profession, occasionally collaborating with the law firms of Prof. Coppi and Prof. Borgogno (where he received his professional training, as a trainee lawyer).
