Associate Professor of Criminal Law, qualified for full professorship, he teaches at the University of Ferrara, where, in addition to traditional criminal law courses, he holds the course in European Criminal Law and serves as coordinator of the Master's Degree in Law.

He has participated in numerous international and national research projects on the main themes of European legal integration in criminal matters. He has conducted research periods abroad and has been a visiting scholar and Erasmus Professor at numerous foreign universities. He is a member of ECLAN (European Criminal Law Academic Network).

He is the author of three monographs: Mutuo riconoscimento in materia penale e diritti fondamentali. Il nodo delle confische (Giappichelli 2023); Neuroscienze e responsabilità penale. Nuove soluzioni per problemi antichi? (Giappichelli 2016); Riserva di legge e legalità penale europea (Giuffré, 2010).
He has also published, including in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, numerous essays on general and special part topics.

He is a member of the editorial board of riminal Justice Network, Diritto penale contemporaneo – Rivista TrimestraleLa legislazione penale and Roma Tre Law Review, as well as a member of the board of reviewers of numerous other scientific journals, including Archivio Penale, Diritto penale XXI secolo, Trusts e attività fiduciarie, "GenIus" - Rivista di studi giuridici sull’orientamento sessuale e l’identità di genere and the series Fonti e studi per il Diritto penale
He is also responsible for the Observatory of the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union of the journal Diritto penale e processo.
